Getting on the Pathway to Future Readiness with the Schoolwide Needs Assessment for Personalized Learning (SNAPL)
Despite all the potential today’s cutting edge technology has to transform education, the promise of edtech has gone largely unrealized. Research has shown that technology alone is not the answer, but instead a holistic approach is necessary for the transformation of our classrooms into Future Ready learning spaces. Developed at the University of Hawaii, the Schoolwide Needs Assessment for Personalized Learning (SNAPL) helps schools begin their journey towards realizing the true potential of education technology.

Designed around the six elements of the Future Ready Honeycomb, the SNAPL helps schools and districts develop new insights into the ground conditions necessary for Personalized Learning to flourish. Attendees will have an opportunity to receive a free report for their district and begin their journey towards becoming Future Ready.

Exploring Cased-Based 3D Animated Videos in High School Online Classrooms
Many instructors employ case study methodologies to accomplish learning objectives, such as bridging theory and practice, applying the knowledge base to real world situations, and enhancing decision-making. This hands-on presentation focuses on the application of case studies that integrate creative 3D animated video creations, self-reflective practices, and collaborative peer discussions and evaluations in an asynchronous online class setting. For example, students break open-ended questions into component parts, extract key information, and develop 3D animated videos presenting the venue in which the case is situated to help themselves and their classmates vividly visualize the situation and facilitate problem-solving. Additionally, students use 3D avatars that role-pay the people involved in the case for data analysis. This not only forces students to really understand the perspectives of the case characters, but also motivates students to communicate complex ideas clearly and effectively by creating animations for their intended audiences. To employ self-reflective practices, instructors use several student-created 3D animated case videos for students to examine the similarities and differences among the cases from diverse viewpoints. This strategy supports the construction of student in-depth skills in analytical tools, coping with ambiguities, and reflection. Finally, through the asynchronous online discussion board, students seek feedback from instructors and peers that informs and improves their 3D animated case videos and demonstrate their learning. In this presentation, the audience can take away engaging approaches to teaching cased-based 3D animated videos that can be used in any discipline at high school levels.

Using Google Forms to Create Differentiated, Personalized and Blended Learning Experiences
Supporting differentiated, personalized and blended learning experiences can at times be daunting. Creating a classroom that creates multiple paths to an objective, serves the diverse learning needs of our students and is flexible with the different paces of student work... can be a juggling act. But there are simple tools right that we can use to provide students with unique experiences. The Google Forms branching feature can allow you to personalize and track learning. You can identify kids who need extra help, allow students who master a learning objective to explore a topic more deeply, or allow a student to decide how they will learn. This session will explain how it works, share innovative models created by teachers AND get you started building your own learning experience for kids.

Virtual Field Trips & Connected Educators
In this connected world of streaming content live as it happens, we need to look at how we can harness that global connection in our classrooms! How can we connect with other classrooms, cultures, and experts? How can we bring experiences from all across the globe right into our classrooms with the power of technology?
During this session, we will experience and explore Google Earth, Hangouts, Tour Creator, Arts & Culture, and FlipGrid to connect with other classrooms and create virtual experiences for our students. Many of these sites have pre-made experiences ready to go as well as the ability to customize experiences to your classroom objectives. When you turn these tools over to your students, they can create unique digital experiences to demonstrate & share their learning as well as connect with other classrooms across the globe.

Going Beyond Foil & Popsicle Sticks: Advancing Design Thinking at School
Design thinking is a problem solving process. You may be familiar with it as a process that companies and individuals use to solve problems and create new products. You may have even learned about it at a workshop or conference session. But how does one actually use design thinking in education? Design thinking is an important, future-ready skill for our students. It teaches them to collaborate empathically and design imaginative solutions to problems. It helps our teachers and students work together to make relevant learning experiences. To that end, we strive to implement design thinking throughout our entire K-12 school, from student projects, to teacher professional development, to administrative decisions. Come hear about our approach and how our students are benefitting from it (and yes, foil and popsicle sticks are sometimes still involved!). Find resources from the session at bit.ly/DTATLIS.

Bold School: Old School Wisdom + New School Technologies
Technology is awesome. Teachers are better. Blending new technologies into instruction is a non-negotiable if we are to help our students gain the skills they'll need to thrive in careers. And so too is educators' old school wisdom in planning intentional blended learning that works. Hence, BOLD SCHOOL. Bold School thinkers embrace Blended pedagogies and Old school wisdom. After all , the goal of blended learning isn't technology--it's student achievement. Based on Weston Kieschnick's book, this will demystify blended learning and provide you with a methodology to help you meld purposeful technology use with your old school wisdom to enhance instruction and learning via the Bold School Framework for Strategic Blended Learning. Vocabulary instruction will be used as an example of how the Bold School Framework can be used.
