Cave paintings, the Bayeux Tapestry, the design of Angkor Wat, the story-telling Griots of West Africa were all state-of-the-art learning technologies of their time. All, like literacy in ancient Greece, were radical innovations that challenged existing norms. Participants in this session will explore processes and tools for making learning innovation integral to school communities. We’ll share concrete examples of how to use a “design and pitch” model that leads to innovative ideas being generated by anyone in the school district from students to custodians to teachers. We’ll share why we built our own educational version of a “skunkworks” and in doing so how we created a culture of contagious creativity -  focused on learning for life not simply to pass tests. We’ll take you on a learning journey in which we’ll share how we arrived at transformative pathways and lifelong learning competencies driving changes in the interfaces of contemporary learning space design, tech decision-making, shaping of culture, flexible uses of time and space, and professional learning.
