As an instructional leader, you provide leadership and vision around teaching and learning. You also provide support to solve instructional problems of practice. Findings from the learning sciences are becoming essential to excellence in the role of instructional leadership, but what does that really mean from a practical perspective? This session is designed to share powerful ideas originating in the learning sciences which can be leveraged into highly effective teaching practices, particularly with digital tools and technologies. It is based upon our new ISTE publication, Design Ed: Connecting Learning Sciences Research to Practice. The LITE framework is introduced which is a tool to guide educators in creating meaningful learning experiences. The book describes aspects of the learning sciences followed by practical advice for the implementation of the LITE (Learners, Instruction, Technologies, and Environment) framework to design instruction for the 4Cs (critical thinking, communication collaboration, and creativity). Resources for further exploration will be provided.
