Using gamification techniques in the classroom will excite your students, increase participation and improve performance. In this session, you will learn how to implement multiple gamified approaches in your class to increase student collaboration, communication, critical thinking, and creativity. These research-based strategies can be easily integrated into your existing curriculum. Leave with practical ideas on how to make learning more immersive and engaging for your students. Following this session, participants will be able to:
  • Explain what gamification is and how it can be applied in a classroom setting.
  • Layer gamification strategies over content to create an engaging learning environment.
  • Describe how gamification amplifies creativity, collaboration, communication, and critical thinking.
Greg has integrated a multitude of different gamification strategies in his classes over several years and has found those that are most successful. He completed an action research project to study the impact of these strategies and has come away with practical techniques that are proven effective. Learn how he engages his students in the learning process and has made “boring” content more exciting.
Derrick has dabbled in digital gamification for the last ten years, experimenting with how it can contribute to a successful cooperative learning environment. He has spent the last fifteen of his twenty years in education as a teacher leader for cooperative learning, inspiring his desire to explore innovative classroom techniques. Derrick wants to understand the methods and motivations behind student learning so that he can help his students recognize them to maximize their own success.
